The Opportunity

AI literacy is no longer optional — it's a foundational skill

Students interact with AI daily, but most use it passively — asking ChatGPT for homework answers or generating images. This workshop shifts the paradigm: from consumers of AI to builders with AI. Students will design, configure, and deploy their own AI-powered tools in a single session.

Workshop A — Middle School

Build Your Own AI Assistant

Every student creates their own specialized AI agent — a science tutor, a sports analyst, a music recommender — tailored to a topic they care about. They leave with something they built and can keep using.

AudienceGrades 7–9 (approx. 50 students)
Duration60–90 minutes
FormatIndividual, guided step-by-step on personal devices
Tools Google AI Studio
01
Hook — Live Demo
A real AI agent in action: what happens when you build a specialized AI vs. just using a generic chatbot. Students see the difference firsthand.
~10 min
02
Learn the Tool
Guided walkthrough of Google AI Studio — what it is, how to access it, key features. Students follow along on their own devices.
~10 min
03
Design Your Agent
Students fill out an Agent Design Card: What does your agent do? Who is it for? What personality does it have? What does it know and what doesn't it know?
~10 min
04
Build
Students configure their AI agent: system prompt, personality, knowledge scope. Both facilitators circulate to help and challenge their thinking.
~30 min
05
Showcase
Volunteers demo their agents live to the group. Quick vote for most creative agent. Closing message: what you just built is what companies pay thousands to develop.
~10–15 min
What Students Take Home

A working AI agent they designed and built themselves — something they can show their parents, iterate on, and keep using. No installation required, fully browser-based.

Support Materials

Each student receives an "Agent Design Card" — a structured template that guides their thinking before they touch the tool. This ensures the building phase is focused and productive.

Core Learning Outcome

The difference between using AI passively and building AI intentionally. Critical thinking about what makes a good AI agent: clear purpose, defined boundaries, and structured instructions.

Workshop B — High School

AI Mini-Consultants: Solve a Real Problem

Teams of 4–5 students work as consultants: identify a real problem, design a solution, and prototype it using AI and automation tools — thinking like entrepreneurs before touching any code.

AudienceGrades 10–12 (approx. 45 students)
Duration60–90 minutes
FormatTeam-based challenge (4–5 students per team)
Tools Google AI StudioMake.com
01
Hook — The Non-Programmer Builder
A real-world case: someone with zero coding background built a working application using AI. The message: AI lets you build real solutions regardless of your technical experience.
~10 min
02
Learn the Tools
Quick walkthrough of Google AI Studio for building agents, plus an introduction to Make.com for connecting AI to external services like email, spreadsheets, and calendars.
~10 min
03
Define the Problem
Each team fills out a Consultant Brief canvas: What is the problem? Who has it? What would an AI-powered solution look like? Structured thinking before any building begins.
~15 min
04
Build the Prototype
Teams build their AI agent in Google AI Studio. Advanced teams can explore connecting it to real services via Make.com. Facilitators act as mentors for each team.
~30–35 min
05
Pitch & Demo
Each team gets 2 minutes: the problem, their solution, and a live demo. The group votes for the best consulting project. Closing: you just did what firms charge thousands for.
~15 min
What Teams Take Home

A working prototype or clear concept of an AI-powered solution they designed and built as a team — plus the experience of pitching their idea, a skill that extends far beyond the classroom.

Support Materials

Each team receives a "Consultant Brief" canvas — a structured one-pager that forces problem definition before solution building. This mirrors how real consulting engagements work.

Core Learning Outcome

Entrepreneurial thinking: define the problem before you touch the tool. AI is an amplifier for good ideas, not a replacement for thinking. Structuring the idea is 80% of the work — the technology is just the last mile.
